The Foundation officially began its work in January 2020. HEAL Foundation attracts individuals who
are inclined towards a service-based approach. Thus making Karma Yoga more relevant in the
modern age. By providing the structure and platform like the HEAL Foundation individuals, especially
the youth, are given a path to serve and give back to society.
Swami Vedanand Saraswati is actively involved in the work of the Heal Foundation.
Humanitarian Projects – Feeding and Hamper Distribution
Over 100 000 meals and over 5000 hampers were served across the province during Covid. In
partnership with the Manav Seva Foundation 1000 meals a day are served in different areas of the
province.
The Arya Samaj and all its affiliates situated in different parts of the country, run soup kitchens,
feeding schemes and give out food hampers to the poor and needy. Meals ranging from home
cooked food to sandwiches, bags of vegetables and staple food are distributed.
Environmental Welfare Projects
Our Environmental Welfare team has also successfully completed a tree planting initiative, “Plant a Spekboom”, launched in commemoration of International Mother Earth Day. The team also partnered up with KZN Clean Blue Lagoon and Adopt A River Foundation to clean up our lagoons and beaches in Durban.
Animal Welfare Projects
Our Animal team has ensured that we address the plight of animal welfare organizations. They donated food supplies to the SPCA and are working with farms and zoo’s by providing much needed supplies.
Baby Beanie Drive
In June 2021, the Foundation launched a crochet campaign requesting members of the public to crochet beanies for new-born babies. Participants were provided with the raw materials. This initiative grew far beyond our expectations and proved to be a roaring success, as we received over 1000 beanies and counting. This is currently being distributed to various NGO’s and Hospitals.
Disaster Response
The Foundation has also been able to successfully respond in times of crisis such as the Covid Pandemic, the Durban floods and unrest in Durban any other natural disaster.
Clothing, blankets and non-perishable foodstuff are collected and distributed. Oxygen Concentrators and medicine packs were provided during the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Yoga and Meditation
The Samaj has begun celebrating International Yoga Day on the 21st June each year for the promotion of Yoga for personal well-being.
The Girl Child
Our sanitary pad project has made a real impact in the communities that we serve. During women’s month, young women and girls from various centres were catered for. At each of these venues an empowerment campaign ranging from mental health and wellness, motivational talks and crocheting initiatives was undertaken.
Stationery Bags
Stationery drive for school students includes packing and distributing Stationery Bags to those most in need and provide dignity for their schooling year
