Priests

last edited on

The Arya Samaj believes in and accepts the philosophy and practical value of the 4 varnas, the 4 ashramas and the performance of the 16 sanskaars.

Priests/purohits/pandits have undertaken spiritual studies and gained deeper insight into the Vedas and other scriptures on Vedic teachings. They then undertake to teach, promote, spread, and live by,
these teachings. In doing so, priests are spiritual leaders.

According to Rishi Dayanand Saraswati (1824-1883) the Vedic Teacher (Purohit/Pandit) must attend
to the work he chose and is called to, irrespective of all considerations whether he was being appreciated or not. It must be a life-long devotion to Vedic regeneration.

Nishkaam karma is the performance of work, action and service without any desire, consideration, or expectation for any reward. Priesthood is a voluntary, noble service in the name of god.

All priests are trained in Vedic studies over a period of three years and are competent in performing the sixteen Sanskaars, performing Havans and other Vidhis as needed. On graduation priests are registered with the Vedic Purohit Mandal and are subject to a code of conduct. Some priests are registered marriage officers with the department of home affairs.

The details for the priests are provided below for the members of the public who wish to use their services. For any bookings, please provide sufficient notification as to when the Purohits services are required, as time and availability needs to be ascertained before any service can be provided. Kindly provide the area where you would like the service provided.
